Being able to film and edit is also vitally important, and we spend a lot of time teaching new skills to all students from lighting and sound to cinematography and camera work and then on to post-production and editing. It doesn't matter whether you are producing a short film, documentary, news show or music video, every student will know how to use a camera, set up a shot and edit the production. Behind this every student will need to be able to 'tell a story' and we work with everyone to help them understand how to build tension, create atmosphere and develop characters so that every story is engaging whether that be a short film or a journalistic factual programme. We encourage all students to find work experience as this is vital to job or university applications. Work placements will help every student understand the industry more and build confidence in their ability. We set aside 1 week at Christmas for all students to find work, but we encourage every student to work sporadically throughout the year on projects whenever they can. Working alongside people already in industry is the best way to learn. |
